Identifying Shopping Trends Using Clustering Algorithms

Ruchi Mittal, Ganga Institute of Technology and Management

Abstract
Trend analysis is always one of the popular areas of research among researchers. The trend analysis is used in many application domains using many data mining and machine learning techniques. Clustering is one of the main components of data mining used for macro-level analysis, which means the analysis is done on smaller groups rather than individual entities. This paper proposes a methodology that analyzes the dataset of customers coming to a Shopping Mall and identifying the target groups using K-means clustering and hierarchical clustering methods. We pick the customer dataset for experiments, which contains the information of users' age, annual income, etc. The finding from experiments suggests that it is good to identify a target group who shop more.
