Investigating the lecturers’ challenges to embrace Collaborative Web Technologies in Higher Education Institutions

Abstract
The purpose of this paper was to investigate the challenges facing the lecturers in embracing Collaborative Web Technologies in Higher Education Institutions of the developing countries. The study was motivated by the fact that while students have become frequent users of the web technologies, for the lecturers, the case if different. This paper answers two research questions through a case study design in which the questionnaire and interviews were used to collect data from a randomly obtained sample of 120 participants. The paper provides a discussion of the findings about the main challenges facing lecturers. It further provides recommendations and future works. The paper is a contribution to the existing body of knowledge in the contexts of developing countries by exposing real challenges and ways to lessen them. Moreover, the paper advances knowledge in the application of a mixed methods approach to the higher education population.
