The politics of e-learning in South African higher education

Abstract
This paper describes recent ICT-related practices emerging in South African universities and compares four approaches that inform their relationship to higher education change. Considering the power dynamics of digital divides, the paper supports a framework that embraces the democratic and pedagogical possibilities offered by online pedagogies but also questions key aspects of the political economy and the cultural politics of e-learning.
